Dr. Andrzej W. Kawecki serves as Vice President of the Management Board, anchoring four decades of legal and institutional standing at the centre of Blackswan's Polish platform. A co-founder of Sołtysiński Kawecki & Szlęzak (SK&S) — one of Poland's largest and most prestigious law firms — he is widely regarded as one of the architects of the country's modern capital markets and continues to practise as senior partner at SK&S.
Background
Dr. Kawecki began his international career as an Associate at Drinker Biddle & Reath in Philadelphia (1985–1991), where he advised on investment-fund structures — including ground-breaking Glass-Steagall compliance solutions for U.S. banks — and on cross-border corporate transactions. He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1987. Returning to Poland in 1991, he advised the Legislative Council on the country's first securities law, and went on to co-author the foundational legislation governing privatisation of the national economy (1991–1992) and the original blueprint of Polish investment-fund law (1996).
At SK&S he established and led the firm's capital markets and banking practice, supervising landmark mergers, acquisitions and pioneer greenfield investments by global corporations including International Paper, Owens-Illinois and Gillette. He continues to advise long-standing clients including Intel, Caterpillar, Bloomberg and Euroclear, and continues to head the firm's renowned employee shareholder incentive programmes practice. From 1996 to 2017 he served as Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of RBS Bank (Polska) S.A. (formerly ABN AMRO), and from 1997 to 2000 he sat on the Supervisory Board of CeTO, Poland's first OTC securities market. He served as Honorary Consul-General of Singapore in Poland from 2019 to 2023.
Recognition
Dr. Kawecki has been named Prawnik Trzydziestolecia — Lawyer of the Thirty-Year Period — recognising the most influential Polish lawyers of the 1990–2020 transition era. He has been continuously recommended as a leading practitioner in Polish corporate and securities law by Chambers & Partners, Forbes and other respected legal-market survey organisations. He is a contributor to the International Securities Law Handbook (2015) and Liability of Asset Managers (2012).
